Storage tips
Here are some pointers for how to best store your wedding gown between picking it up from your alterations services and the big day-
Try to not crowd your dress. If you can hang it out of its garment bag, it will keep it from getting as wrinkled. The garment bag should only be used in transportation at this point. Try hanging the dress from the top of a cabinet or bookshelf with a chair under the train to help spread out the fabric and keep it from folding. You could also lay out the gown on a guest room bed, spreading out the skirt as much as possible.
Taking newspaper or tissue paper and balling it up and placing it where the bust is to fill the curves can help to keep the bust from getting crushed and maintain your shape.
Don’t store your dress bustled. This will set in any wrinkles or folds that the dress might get while bustled, and if it’s in the garment bag bustled and someone goes to grab your bag, steps on it and gives a good tug, the bustle points are more likely to break or rip your fabric. Your bustle will be set for walking, sitting, and dancing your wedding night away, it just needs to stay unbustled until then.
Consider hanging a dehydrator packet or two around your wedding dress. Living in Washington, things can get damp, which can affect your dress’s fabric. Here is a link to some of my favorite dehydrating hangers- https://a.co/d/1asejDg Don’t hang this up directly against your dress, in the event of a leak!
You should plan for about 30 minutes of steaming your dress in your wedding day, even if you get it professionally pressed. Make someone else that you trust do this, it’s your special day. You’ll want to do this before hair and makeup as the steam can blemish your beautifully styled look. You can read more about steaming on our blog post about it!
After the wedding, if there are stains that need to be cleaned, get it done as soon as possible so that the stains are less likely to set. For cleaning, we recommend Seattle Wedding Dress Specialists.
